Colorado is a Leader in Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology is our future pipeline of all science and technology. It has the potential
to create economic growth in every geographical area of the state and among almost
every industry sector. Nanotechnology as an economic driver is no ‘small matter’.

Over the next 10 to 20 years, it is anticipated that nanotechnologies will change almost
every product on the market today, resulting in an estimated $2.6 trillion global market
and the creation of more than 7 million high waged U.S. jobs by 2015. As an enabling, cross-cutting technology, nanotechnology is essential to the future growth of all of Colorado’s technology industry sectors and our future workforce
.

Upcoming Events

Optoelectronics for the Green Revolution
September 9-10, 2008 -- Sheraton Denver West, Lakewood, CO
As the United States grapples with problems of sustainability, global warming, and energy independence, it is clear that optoelectronic and photonic technologies will play a key role. Efficiency, monitoring, and energy generation are areas where photonic technology will be important. “Green photonics” impacts energy generation (photovoltaic), lighting (solid state lighting), display (emissive and other efficient technologies), and communications. Green Nanotechnology: It’s Easier Than You Think
The ability to eliminate waste and toxins from production processes early on, to create more efficient and flexible solar panels, and to remove contaminants from water is becoming an exciting reality with nanotechnology. (more)

Turning university research into products takes time, money, and initiative
ABOUT 500 small-company business plans came through the door last year at BASF Venture Capital, the investment arm of the German chemical giant. After an initial screening, company analysts rejected three-quarters of the plans. BASF then carried out in-depth reviews of less than half of those left and eventually negotiated deals with just a few companies. (more)

"Lunar Concrete" May Form Buildings on the Moon
June 4, 2008
A new type of "lunar concrete," made by mixing moondust and carbon nanotubes, could be used to construct buildings, solar power arrays, and monolithic telescopes on the moon. (more)
